About This Site

Things you’ll find on this site:
I used to volunteer at the information desk of various Smithsonian museums.  I’d often get a question like this:  “We only have about an hour.  What should we see?”  Through the years I developed my “Don’t Miss This” short list, including the original Star Spangled Banner and Julia Child’s Kitchen at the American History Museum, the Milestones of Flight exhibit at the Air and Space Museum, the sculpture gardens at the Hirshhorn and the National Gallery of Art.  As your pop culture concierge, I'll be sharing my top suggestions on how to best spend whatever time you can spare for your pop culture enjoyment.  Also, I’m a concierge, not a critic, so generally everything I write about here will be things I liked.

Are you trying to figure out if something is worth your time, but want to have an unspoiled experience?  These are the posts for you - quick hits that should help you decide whether or not you want to check something out, with as little plot giveaway as I can manage.

Do you ever wish you could read something or watch something for the first time again?  Yeah, me too, and unfortunately I can’t help with that.  But I’ve read a lot of recaps through the years, and the really good ones have helped elongate my enjoyment after watching or reading something I really loved.  My recaps are deep dives and 100% spoileriffic.  These are the posts for you if you want to reflect on something you’ve already seen or read - I’m deadly serious about this - I don't keep any plot secrets in my recaps.

Sometimes I get on a trip - like, I want to consume ALL the journalism stories, across all the media.  A journalism series might include reviews and recaps of All the President’s Men (book and movie), His Girl Friday (Rosalind Russell/Cary Grant Classic) and a recent episode of “The Daily” (the New York Times daily podcast, which often offers behind the scenes insight on how certain stories came together and were published).  A series will cover a lot of territory, and will be published piece by piece over time.  This could also include recaps/reviews of book series or other serialized storytelling.
My Starter Don’t Miss List includes (but is not limited to:)

The Wire, Friday Night Lights, The West Wing, Veronica Mars, The Office, Parks and Recreation, Mad Men, The Vampire Diaries, Gilmore Girls
